Code of Conduct/Behavior Policy

As a member of the Stonehaven Stingrays swim team, I agree to uphold the following code of conduct:

1. Sportsmanship: I will demonstrate good sportsmanship at all times, showing respect for my teammates, coaches, opponents, officials, and spectators. I will accept both victory and defeat graciously, and refrain from unsportsmanlike conduct.

2. Respect: I will respect the rules and regulations set by the team, coaches, and facility. I will treat all individuals with respect, regardless of their age, gender, race, or background. I will listen to and follow instructions given by coaches and team leaders.

3. Behavior: I will conduct myself in a manner that reflects positively on the team and the community. I will refrain from using inappropriate language, engaging in bullying, or any form of harassment. I will not engage in any form of cheating, dishonesty, or unsportsmanlike behavior.

4. Attendance and Punctuality: I know that practice is optional and I can attend the days and times that work best for me, however I will arrive on time for practices and meets, ready to participate and contribute to the team.

5. Team Unity: I will support and encourage my teammates, fostering a positive and inclusive team environment. I will work collaboratively with my teammates to achieve common goals and strive for personal improvement. I will celebrate the achievements and successes of my teammates.

6. Communication: I will communicate openly and respectfully with coaches, teammates, and parents. I will address any concerns or conflicts in a constructive manner, seeking resolution through dialogue and understanding.

7. Dress Code: I will adhere to the team dress code for meets. I will wear the 2024 team meet suit (or a solid black suit) with pride, representing the team with dignity and professionalism.

8. Safety: I will prioritize the safety and well-being of myself and others during all team activities. I will follow safety guidelines and procedures established by the team and coaches. By agreeing to this code of conduct, I commit to upholding the values of sportsmanship, respect, integrity, and teamwork as a member of the neighborhood summer swim team.

Any violations of the Code of Conduct will be handled in the following manner:

1. First offense: A written certified letter to the swimmer and/or parent explaining the Code of Conduct Violation which will lead to one of the following: - “First Strike” warning (includes meeting with board members and/or coaches) with understanding that if there are any further conduct violations, automatic suspension or expulsion from the team will result, OR - Suspension from ALL team activities for a set amount of time, OR - Immediate expulsion from the team (drug usage, weapons, excessive alcohol use, etc.)

2. Second offense: -Immediate suspension or expulsion from the team. Both of these actions will be voted on at a Board or Emergency Board meeting. Note: The coaches and Swim Officials do have the right to send a swimmer and/or parent home from any swim team activity with a meeting to follow.

Practice Discipline Policy

In order to make practices the most beneficial and safe for all, a discipline policy must be followed. If a coach encounters a problem, they will give your child one warning to stop their disruptive behavior. If the behavior continues, the child will be asked to sit out for a period of time. If the behavior continues, the parents will be notified and the child will be sent home for the day.
